There are natural ways to cure your social anxiety. I’m not talking about alcohol! If you drink alcohol to build self-confidence just so you can approach attractive men or women, you’re destroying your health and hurting your social and conversation skills.

You can overcome your anxiety because the problem rests within you. Motivational speaker Wayne Dyer said, “The components of anxiety, stress, fear, and anger do not exist independently of you in the world. They simply do not exist in the physical world, even though we talk about them as if they do.”

So what natural steps can you take to treat panicky feelings so you don’t get signs of anxiety and suffer from attacks (all without spending a fortune)? There’s three things: dietary changes, mind techniques, and good communication skills.

The dietary changes to make to naturally is to cut out alcohol. Booze does not help you socialize in the long run. It’s instant gratification. Also cut out caffeine as it can make you jittery. Lastly, eat more fruit and vegetables because the body digests these foods well.

Mind techniques to help you overcome social anxiety include visualizations, positive thinking, and my favorite one: challenging beliefs. If you’re afraid of meeting an attractive women, visualize her liking you. Challenge your belief that she won’t like you by acknowledging you’re an interesting person because you’ve worked on yourself. (You must really believe this.)

If you just change your diet and use the given mind techniques to deal with your anxiety and shyness, you will not completely cure the problem. Why? Because you need the third step: improving your communication skills.

Without good communication skills, it doesn’t matter if you take drugs, improve your diet, or use the given mind techniques to cure your social anxiety – you’ll still lack the skill to become unstoppably confident. Pure self-confidence where you feel no fear comes from knowing without a doubt that you can handle the situation.

I encourage you to follow this simple and cheap three-step process to treat your social anxiety. Especially adhere to the last step: develop your communication skills to build self-confidence in social situations.

For the New Year one thing that many people promise to work on is being more social. The good news is you can learn what to do in three easy steps. Learning how to be more social is not very hard, people just have a hard time doing it because of how uncomfortable they are being social or in social situations.

Step 1

The first thing that you will need to do to learn how to be more social in 2010 is to get out of the house no matter what. Some people find it hard to leave the house, either because they are too busy working or because they do not want to miss the comfort of being at home. If you stay inside the house, you will never learn how to be more social because you will not be put in social situations. Getting out of the house does not mean that you have to go out to the nearest bar or art show, you can simply get out into the front yard to work on yard work or relax outside, just take advantage of the people walking by and talk to them.

Step 2

The second thing that you can do when you are learning how to be more social is to sign up for classes that you are interested in. For example, go to the local recreation center and sign up for an aerobics class if you enjoy working out or a pottery class if you like to make stuff. Attending these classes will allow you to spend time with other peple who shares your interests, which makes it easier to be more social because you already have stuff in common.

Step 3

The third thing that you will need to do to become more social is to make friends with the people that you work with everyday. Talk to the people that you work with to find out if you have similar interests, if you do try to get together at least once a week to spend some time together. This can be as simple as going to grab a cup of coffee or it can involve getting outside to play a round of golf. The key is you are getting out of your house and becoming more social.

Many people who suffer from anxiety disorders share a few common symptoms: the fear of appearing foolish, a fear of confrontation, and a lack of assertiveness. Overcoming can be one of the deciding factors in whether or not you do get the job you’re applying for. So how do you defeat this anxiety?

Preparation is a key part of any successful job interview. If the job you’re applying for requires knowledge in a particular field, make sure you know the specifics of what this job will entail. If it’s a secretarial job, make sure you look presentable and conduct yourself in a friendly, approachable manner. Obviously your former job experience will play a part, but being prepared is a huge part of overcoming the anxiety associated with job interviews. This is because preparation boosts confidence. If you go for an exam or test and you’ve studied thoroughly, you feel a lot better than when you haven’t properly prepared.

The fear of appearing foolish is a great part of job interview anxiety. We fear that we will seem ignorant, unable to express ourselves, stupid, weak, etc. Odds are that you are much smarter and more qualified than many of the people who applied for the job; you got the interview, didn’t you? Make sure you give yourself due credit for your abilities and don’t assume that you are any less smart or capable than your interviewers. They were once in your shoes and had to undergo the same trials, after all. Don’t box yourself into the pitfall of perfectionism; we can’t all be perfect all the time.

If you fear that you will suffer a panic attack before or during the interview, do everything you can to prepare for it. Take deep breaths, relax, and remind yourself that this is not a life or death situation. There will always be other opportunities if you do not get this job, and if nothing else, it will be an experience you can learn from.
